International Day of Persons with Disabilities 3 December

Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.

This year’s theme focused on empowering persons with disabilities for an inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

SWDC is very pleased to join the rest of the world in commemoration of international day of persons living with disabilities, the annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on the 3rd December, aims to promote an understanding of disability issues, the rights of persons with disabilities and gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of their communities.

The Day provides an opportunity to mobilize action to achieve the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in society by persons with disabilities, established by the World Program of Action concerning Disabled Persons, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1982, The theme for this year’s IDPD is “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”. This theme focuses on the empowering persons with disabilities for the inclusive, equitable.

SWDC team honored the day at IDPs settlement at km13 where it was invited 60 persons with disabilities   those who disclosed their concerns, and the challenges they face within the community this included exclusion, discrimination and challenges to the enjoyment of their fundamental rights and inclusion.
