A Somali Crisis Line for Women Dealing with Violence and Abuse

 

BACKGROUND

CEEBLA Crisis Line is a community owned initiative established by the Somali Women Development Center (SWDC) offering services in both Somali and English for women who have experienced violence and abuse or might be at risk of becoming victims to seek support for relevant information and referrals to appropriate front-line services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

CEEBLA Crisis Line responds to requests for information made by family and friends of females who are victims of violence and abuse.

CEEBLA Crisis Line has live operators to assist callers navigate through the various services that are available within their areas as requested.

CEEBLA Crisis Line’s main focus is to assist women who have experienced violence and abuse in all its forms including women who have been sexually assaulted.

 

MISSION

CEEBLA is a Crisis Line for women who have experienced violence and abuse or might be at risk of becoming victims to report, seek assistance and access services by dialing a toll free number 5555.

 

PRINCIPLES AND VALUES

CEEBLA Crisis Line adheres to the following values and principles in all of its activities and services:

Provides a non-judgmental, high quality intervention that is grounded in full respect of confidentiality and anonymity

Offers services that integrate anti-oppression framework and supportive systems

Offers services in Somali to assist women break through silence and seek assistance

Partners with service providers to offer assistance in preventing violence against women and assisting survivors to cope with their situation

Partners with national and international security sector actors to respond to cases of SGBV/SEA that are reported to the crisis line
