International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 25 November

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today.

SWDC is pleased to commemorate International Day to End Violence against women who were celebrated worldwide. 25th November marks the first day of the 16 days of activism recognized and celebrated internationally. The primary objective of celebrating the big day is to address concerns and sufferings of women all over the world through developing proper and effective strategies to eliminate violence against women globally.

The colorful event was held at Afrika Hotel in Mogadishu where 100 participants (50 Female and 50 male) from the 17th districts of Benadir region were invited; among them were representative from district authorities, women Groups and youth groups, traditional leaders, University student’s Teachers leaders, IDP focal points and media. All participants invited registered and arrived on the agreed time.

A global campaign – the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence – runs from 25 November until 10 December, Human Rights Day. This campaign spotlights the actions being taken to end this global scourge.

The 2018 theme is Orange the World: #HearMeToo and like previous editions, the date marks the launch of 16 days of activism that will conclude on 10 December 2018, International Human Rights Day.
