Though in recent years, women participation in politics and decision making has received significant attention across the, Somali women remain seriously underrepresented in all areas of politics and decision making. For women in Somalia the reality of achieving a space in political participation is an uphill task. In order to achieve gender equality in political participation, the government and civil society groups must consider how gender inequality in politics takes form even before a woman makes a choice to enter the field. Filling the gap has been challenging, given existing socio-cultural and economic status of women Somalia.

Empowering women to substantially not only serves to bridge the existing gender disparity in politics, but is also critical to achieving gender equality more broadly
